Abstract:

"Motor Imagery" is a paradigm used in non-invasive electroencephalography, particularly in the neurorehabilitative treatment of stroke patients.

This study describes the experimental procedure for acquiring a database of electroencephalography signals recorded from 30 healthy young adults (aged 18-25) and 30 healthy older adults (aged 45 and above). Using these real-time signals, it was possible to control a hand exoskeleton. The system's performance in recognizing mental activity for exoskeleton control was measured and analyzed in the time and frequency domain. Additionally, the training data was used for calibrating an artificial intelligence model, and online validation data allowed the evaluation of participants' motor ability and signal recognition time.

In summary, the time-frequency analysis showed higher activity in older participants compared to younger ones.
